What is the role of an ALNCo?
An ALNCo (Additional Learning Needs Coordinator) is a key person in the school who makes sure that every child who has learning difficulties or needs extra support gets the right help.
What does an ALNCo do?
- Supports children – ensures the right support is in place to help every child learn and develop.
- Works with parents – talks to you and keeps you involved in the process.
- Coordinates support – organises resources and staff where needed.
- Works with external services – such as educational psychologists or therapists when necessary.
- Monitors progress – checks that children are making progress and adjusts plans if needed.
Why is this important?
The ALNCo helps create an environment where every child can feel happy, confident, and succeed in school.
